Decorating for a small space will never mean that you have to compromise on style. Function & Storage As with all of the spaces that you live in, the space needs to provide you with the function you need. If storage is needed chose furniture pieces that have dual purposes. In a living room you might choose an ottoman with a removable lid to store things inside, while in the bedroom you might use a dresser instead of a table as a nightstand, to provide more storage with drawers. Adding shelves to otherwise bare walls in the kitchen will provide … Continue reading
There is a distinct difference between drapery fabrics and upholstery fabrics. It only makes sense that upholstery weight fabric is heavier and more substantial than drapery or bedding fabrics due to the wear and tear aspect of furnishings. When choosing upholstery fabric, search out colors that complement your interior design plan. Patterns that are scaled appropriately and have an interesting texture will add depth to your furniture and to your interiors. Review the details about each fabric’s durability, stain resistance, fade resistance, maintenance and longevity to ensure your furniture will meet the wear and tear of everyday use by children, … Continue reading

At Feathers we are in love with draperies! Getting the look just right is essential to stunning window coverings. We like to mount the draperies 12” beyond the sides of the window casing to allow the draperies to stack on the sides, letting more window to show. And, draperies should not be mounted right above the window frame, but approximately half way between the top of the window and the ceiling. Don’t be afraid to make a bold statement with high mounted draperies. Photo credit: Sheers over a solid drapery provides an elegant look in reverse. Created by Feathers.

The fear of color runs rampant with homeowners because of the unknown. Too bright, too dark, too busy and everything in between keeps rooms in a static state of “Swiss Coffee and beige”. Contrast that with a well thought out color … Continue reading
